Important Tax Dates for Individuals & Businesses in 2017

January is over halfway completed and with my birthday fast approaching (I like large presents folks!) there are some important tax dates to keep in mind.

IRS Starts Accepting Tax Returns

  • January 23rd 2017 – Keep in mind that there may be longer delays in getting your refund this year. The IRS is working on reducing tax refund fraud.

W2s & 1099s due to Individuals (and the Social Security Administration in most cases)

  • January 31st 2017

Estimated Tax Payments

  • April 18th 2017
  • June 15 2017
  • September 15th 2017
  • January 16th 2018

Individual Tax Returns

  • April 18th 2017

Sales Tax Returns

  • January 20th 2017

S-Corp & Partnership Tax Returns

  • March 15th 2017

Corporation & Trust Tax Returns

  • April 18th 2017 (for Corporations on a Calendar year. It’s the 15th day of the 4th month for those on a Fiscal year other than July 1st to June 30th in which case it’s the 15th day of the third month.  September 15th 2017)

In many cases you can file for extensions for many tax due dates.  Extensions with the IRS extend the deadline to file, not the deadline to pay.  You still need to pay any tax due by the original filing deadline or you will be subject to penalties and interest.
